GOP Wins Senate Seat, Gains A Suburban House Seat

pat-toomeyIn the U.S. Senate race, Republican Pat Toomey (pictured here) fought off a surge and beat Democrat Joe Sestak. Sestak led for much of the night, but Toomey pulled ahead as returns came in from Central and Western Pennsylvania, and he ended up with 51 percent of the vote, for a total of just under two million.  He will replace five-term Senator Arlen Specter, who lost to Sestak in the Democratic Primary Election.

Former Republican Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick defeated incumbent Democrat Patrick Murphy in the Eighth District, which is mostly in Bucks County.  In his victory speech, Fitzpatrick gave credit to his campaign staff.

“We knew it would be tough, we knew it would be a lot of hard work, we knew it would be expensive, and you never gave up, and that’s what America is about.  We said we wanted to take our country back, and we are here today to say we have taken our country back.”

In his concession speech, Murphy was not ready to let go of a campaign controversy over absentee ballots.

“I just got off the phone with Mike Fitzpatrick and his team and his wife, and they won fair and square, well, not fair and square but they won.”

His partisan crowd erupted in cheers and applause but, with Fitzpatrick winning 54 percent of the vote, the absentee ballots in question would not have changed the outcome.

WNPV AM 1440 WNPV's website hasn't been updated yet but the next Summer Spectacular Ticket Giveaway will take place on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 6 PM, at Rann Pharmacy, 377 Main Street, Harleysville. The rules on the website remain the same so look them up and then come out to win your share of $4,000 in prizes!
WNPV AM 1440 Saturday morning was a beautiful time for WNPV's Summer Spectacular Ticket Giveaway at Cardinal Camera in Quakertown! We gave away over $4,000 in prizes including three Grand Prizes of family 4-packs of tickets to Knoebel's Amusement Park in Elysburg. Saturday's Grand Prize winners were: Philip Schanz of Lansdale, Elaine Waters of Horsham, and Gloria Woodland of Lansdale. Maybe you'll win the Grand Prize at our next one!
