Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel says he will not run for another term. He is supporting State Representative Josh Shapiro of Abington and Whitemarsh Township Supervisor Leslie Richards. Hoeffel, Shapiro and Richards are all Democrats. He says a unified ticket will put the party in a better position to win two seats on the three-member board, and thereby win control of the county courthouse. Shapiro, who won a fourth term in the state house in November, says he will complete his four-year term if he is elected as county commissioner. Shapiro served as Chief of Staff when Hoeffel was in congress, and he says they are still friends. Richards calls Shapiro one of the smartest and hardest-working politicians in Pennsylvania. The County Democratic Committee picks its slate later this month.
