Montco Lawmaker: Marcellus Shale Drilling Is Safe

creekMontgomery County State Representative Todd Stephens held a forum recently on Marcellus Shale and the natural gas industry. He says he called together a panel of experts to dispel misinformation, especially about the hydrofracturing extraction method, commonly known as fracking.

“They explained that the chemicals used in the fracking process are publicly available, that the process has been used for more than 60 years in countless wells all across America without problems, and things along those lines.  The experts also explained that if damage is done by anyone who is discharging water or in any way injuring the environment, those parties that create the damage are responsible for cleaning up the damage.”

Stephens says some people believe Pennsylvania has the strictest safety precautions and procedures in the country.  He says environmental protection is very important, but so is the natural gas industry, and the state desperately needs it to succeed.
