Amuso: Give Summary Offenders A Fresh Start

wnpv_politicsMontgomery County lawyer Peter Amuso says he will give people arrested for summary offenses a second chance if he is elected as Magisterial District Judge in Springfield Township. He says he will start a program that allows first-time offenders to clear their records by doing community service.

“If we give them hard community service so they remember the six weekends they spent cutting weeds along the Wissahickon or cleaning out the kitchen at the local hospice or hospital they won’t do that again, but just as importantly they will have an opportunity to move on.  They won’t have this record that’s going to pop up instantly on anybody’s iphone.”

Amuso says the records are readily available on the internet, and he gets calls in his private law practice from parents who are concerned that a shoplifting guilty plea, for example, will prevent their son or daughter from getting into college or getting a job.  He says his program will let them have a fresh start.  He appeared Wednesday on the WNPV talk program Legally Speaking.
