DEP Tests: PA Water Safe To Drink

Nuclear_symbolGovernor Tom Corbett says weekend tests of drinking water in Norristown and five other locations found no public risk from radioactivity. He says levels were elevated, but well within U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards.

“After repeated testing throughout the weekend results were within normal levels, in the single digits and below the federal level.  The bottom line is our public drinking water is safe.  We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the public informed should that level change.”

Corbett says water testing will continue, and air test results will be released later this week.  He says he ordered the tests to see if any radiation from the Japanese nuclear power plant accident reached the state.  He says the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection does not expect any further increase in radiation levels, and they should go down quickly over the next three months.
