Loch Alsh Dam Rehab Contract Awarded

creekAmbler Borough Council voted recently to award a contract for the first phase of a rehabilitation project at the Loch Alsh Reservoir Dam. The dam and reservoir are actually located in Upper Dublin Township, along Loch Alsh Avenue, but they are part of the Ambler Borough Water System.  The dam, which is 16 feet high and 513 feet long, was built in 1915.  Five years ago the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection placed it on a list of high-risk dams that might not hold in a maximum flood storm.  The first phase, which involves rebuilding the dam, is costing a little over $650,000.  A state grant will cover $530,000 of that cost.  Bids will be awarded next month for phase two, which involves drain, spillway and embankment work.  The project should start in early may, and it should be finished by late summer or early fall.
