Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd officials are moving ahead with a study of the Wastewater Treatment Plant they operate jointly through the Upper Gwynedd-Towamencin Municipal Authority. They have hired the environmental engineering firm of Hazen and Sawyer, and Towamencin Township Manager Rob Ford says the engineer doing the study is uniquely qualified.
“The actual individual that will be doing the study worked at one time for a utility, and it would purchase treatment plants, and he would go out and make recommendations as to what needs to be done in the next couple of years, and how much money needed to be invested, so that the utility company could decide whether or not to buy it.”
He says it looks good on the outside, but now they have to take a closer look at the inside. The plant’s 50-year charter expires in 2014, and they want to know what they have before they renew it. The two townships are splitting the $65,000 cost of the study.
