Primary Election Results

wnpv_politicsAppointed Montgomery County Sheriff Eileen Behr won the Republican nomination in Tuesday’s Primary Election, easily defeating challenger Robert Durante. She plans to make the department more cost-effective.

“We’re responsible to the taxpayers, so keeping staffing levels down and finding ways to cut money that’s being spent in the department.”

She faces Democrat William Holt in November.

Republicans Dan Clifford and Maureen Coggins and Democrats Cheryl Austin and Richard Haaz got their party nominations for Montgomery County Judge.

The big race in November is for Montgomery County Commissioner, where incumbent Republican Bruce Castor is running on a team with Lower Merion Township Commissioner Jenny Brown.  Castor says the county’s financial problems are a direct result of the coalition government formed by Republican Jim Matthews and Democrat Joe Hoeffel.

“The Democrats will try to tell you that the county’s finances are a disaster because the Republicans won the election.  The Republicans will tell the truth and say that it’s because of Jim Matthews’ defection to the Democratic effective majority that has run the county into the ground.”

They face Democrats Josh Shapiro and Leslie Richards.  Shapiro, a state representative from Abington, says their campaign will focus on one thing.

“Communicating to the people of Montgomery County about the commitment that Leslie Richards and I have to creating jobs and economic opportunity, to streamlining government and keeping taxes low in our community.”

In Bucks County, incumbent Commissioners Charley Martin and Rob Loughery easily won a Republican primary challenge from Andy Warren and Jay Russell.  They face Democrats Diane Marseglia and Det Ansinn in the fall.

In a close race for Lansdale Borough Council Denton Burnell won the Democratic Nomination in Ward Three, defeating Leon Angelichio by three votes.

Endorsed Republican Andrea Duffy defeated Magisterial District Judge David Keightly in both party primaries in a district that includes Montgomery Township and part of Hatfield Township, and the endorsed slates won in the North Penn School Board race.
