Souderton-Telford Main Street Manager Pam Coleman says state funding for the nonprofit organization has ended, and the final check should arrive any day now. She says they still have support from the two boroughs and local businesses, but they will have to look for other sources, including an Improvement District that assesses a fee on participating property owners.
“Basically it’s democracy in the raw. If you pay that assessment you have the right to come to our annual meetings to vote and participate in our committees and our board of directors.”
She says several types of Improvement Districts are available.
“It’s hard to describe because communities can customize it for neighborhood, commercial, industrial, institutional or mixed use.”
Coleman says that is not necessarily the direction Souderton-Telford Main Street is going, but it will be explored at a June 9 meeting. Details are still being worked out. She appeared Monday on the WNPV talk program Indian Valley Live.
