Clymer: Gaming Board Report No Surprise

slotBucks County State Representative Paul Clymer says a scathing statewide grand jury report on the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is no surprise. The report was highly critical of the way the board handled licenses for slot machine parlors after they were legalized in 2004, and Clymer says some questionable characters got them.

“How some of these individuals who made applications got a casino license has to raise a lot of red flags.  Pennsylvanians really have to be concerned.”

One licensee with organized crime ties, Louis DeNaples, turned his casino over to his daughter.  Clymer says he warned of the dangers before casinos were legalized.

“When you have an industry that’s so crafted and you know the history of it – there’s crime and corruption, there’s political plays and campaign contributions – there’s going to be serious problems.  I warned the people.  I said this octopus is going to have its tentacles into the halls of government, and we’re going to be sorry if we don’t do things right the first time around.  Well, they now have their tentacles in the halls of government.”

He says the Gaming Control Board has some good people, and reforms have taken place, but more are needed.  Clymer appeared Tuesday on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
