Doylestown Twp Repeals Sex Offender Ordinance

The Doylestown Township Supervisors have repealed an ordinance that barred registered sex offenders from living near schools, parks and other places where children gather. The township solicitor recommended the repeal because the Pennsylvania Supreme Court recently struck down a similar ordinance in Allegheny County, saying it undermined the state sentencing and parole codes and interfered with state goals of rehabilitating appropriate offenders.  No one was ever cited during the six years the Doylestown Township ordinance was on the books, and Police Chief Stephen White says he is not concerned about the repeal because state lawmakers added more protections under Megan’s Law about three years ago.
