President Obama has declared an emergency for Eastern Pennsylvania as a result of damage from Tropical Storm Irene. The declaration makes 75 percent federal funding available to supplement state and local response efforts. The five southeastern counties are included in the emergency area.
Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley checked out flood damage in Hulmeville, Yardley and New Hope in Bucks County, his home county, Monday. He Said, “We prepared for the worst, prayed for the best, and landed somewhere in the middle.” The Delaware River crested well below the high water marks of 1955, April of 2005 and June of 2006. While there was no major flooding along the Delaware, Cawley said many homes and businesses were affected.
