Montco Commissioners Have Shared Vision

montco_courthouseThe new Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners, Democrat Josh Shapiro, says Republican Bruce Castor is a full partner in running county government and fixing what’s wrong with it. Castor says a lot is wrong.

“The situation had deteriorated so much as far as the actual nuts and bolts of running the government, right down to the cleanliness of the courthouse, and the way that people did their jobs had eroded so much.  When the three of us came into office, all of the things that I said during the campaign were all true.  It wasn’t any exaggeration, and as that has become evident to the three of us, and it may be even worse to some degree than even I thought it was, that creates a commonality of purpose.”

Castor says both parties know the courthouse has to be clean and people in important county positions have to be honest and do their jobs well.  Shapiro says he and the other Democrat, Vice Chairman Leslie Richards, share Castor’s views.

“I’ve said to Bruce I was disappointed with how many of those areas have been left untouched and issues left unaddressed or unresolved for many years, and let me be very clear.  That’s not because our workforce is sitting back not doing their jobs.  It’s because they haven’t had the type of leadership necessary to provide the vision, and we’re providing that to them.”

Shapiro says he, Castor and Richards walk the hallways of the courthouse and other county buildings, and the people they talk to know that all three commissioners have a shared vision of what county government should be doing.  Shapiro and Castor appeared recently on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
