The West Norriton Township Commissioners have turned down a request from the Freedom Valley YMCA for a hearing on a zoning change. The “Y” wants to build a $19 million full-service facility with three indoor pools, three outdoor pools, a gymnasium, indoor track, fitness room and child care rooms at the former Markley Farms Swim and Tennis Club site near Oakland Drive and Chestnut Avenue. Neighbors say it would lower their quality of life and raise their property tax bills. As a non-profit organization, the “Y” is tax-exempt.
