Towamencin Official Wants Turnpike Interchange Name Change

Turnpike-LogoThe Chairman of the Towamencin Township Supervisors, Dan Littley, is advocating a name change for the Lansdale Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. He says it was Kulpsville when the Northeast Extension opened in 1955, and it kept the name for 20 or more years before the Turnpike Commission changed it.

He says he wants it changed back to Kulpsville because the name will give township residents a sense of community they may not feel when people stand on township soil and call it Lansdale.

“A lot of people coming into the township keep referring to North Penn High School, because of the Zip Code, as being in Lansdale when actually it’s not.  It’s in Towamencin Township and we know best because our police respond there, our fire department responds there.  Towamencin was losing its community identity to zip codes.”

Littley says restoring the Kulpsville name to the turnpike interchange is not a new idea.  A couple of residents suggested it five years ago when the township was developing a long-range strategic plan.
