Lansdale Opposes Name Switch For Turnpike Interchange

Turnpike-LogoLansdale Borough Council has passed a resolution opposing an effort by the Towamencin Township Supervisors to change the name of the Lansdale Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

It was Kulpsville when the Northeast Extension opened in 1955, and Borough Councilman Jack Hansen says changing the name to Lansdale in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s made sense because it’s the main destination in the North Penn area.

“People are looking for Lansdale.  We have the farmers’ market, the Under the Lights Car Show, the Festival of the Arts.  People are looking for it, and with Lansdale being the name of the interchange it brings people right to this area, and they come from everywhere so with it on the map, the toll ticket and the signage it’ll bring them into Lansdale for all the events that are here.”

Hansen says many new businesses have opened in Lansdale, most are thriving, more owners are looking at locating in the borough almost every day, and he believes that will continue, partly because of the name recognition from the turnpike interchange.
