No Class Action In Webcam Spying Lawsuit

wnpv_schoolsThe family that sued the Lower Merion School District over its use of laptop computer webcams, activated by remote control to spy on students in their homes, has dropped plans to seek class-action damages. A lawsuit filed by the parents of Harriton High School sophomore Blake Robbins says a camera on his school-issued computer was activated while he was at home, in violation of the state wiretapping law and federal civil rights laws.  Their lawyer says they will not try to broaden their case to include other students because each case was unique, and class-action damages would not be appropriate.  Attorney Mark Haltzman says the decision not to seek a class-action suit was prompted in part by successful negotiations with school officials and other parents.  The latest move could lead to a quicker settlement between Lower Merion and the Robbins family.
