Montco Starting Teen Warm Line

pushbuttonMontgomery County has contracted with Access Services of Fort Washington for a Teen Warm Line. County Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Department Administrator Eric Goldstein says it gives teenagers with mental health concerns someone to talk with before they reach a crisis.

“This allows them to call when they may be in a situation where they are approaching a crisis mode or they just need someone to talk to.  It’s both a preventive measure and a measure to help people get their services if they need them.”

He says Access will let teens, school counselors and others know about the program.

“They’ll advertise at the schools, they’ll let the youth groups know, there will be a public education program to let people know what the number is and what the Warm Line can do.  That’s part of the cost for which the agency is getting startup funds.”

The startup cost is nearly $148,000, and Goldstein says a key component of the Teen Warm Line is peer-to-peer counseling under professional guidance.
