Federal prosecutors say the Lower Merion School District did not commit a crime with webcam monitoring of students. U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger says he has thoroughly reviewed evidence collected by the FBI, Lower Merion Police and Montgomery County Detectives and concluded that criminal charges are not warranted. He says there was no evidence establishing criminal intent beyond a reasonable doubt, and the investigation has ended. Two families that sued the school district over its use of laptop computer webcams, activated by remote control to photograph students in their homes, are still pursuing civil litigation. They say the cameras invaded their children’s privacy.
