NP Students Excel On PSSA Tests

wnpv_schoolsNorth Penn students have achieved their highest scores ever on standardized state tests, known as PSSA’s. Assistant Superintendent of Schools Diane Holben says the scores provide strong evidence that their strategies to improve student achievement are working.

“We are looking at continuing to emphasize the achievement of every student to make sure that every student is achieving at least a year’s growth in a year’s time so that we can continue to move toward the No Child Left Behind goal of 100 percent of students proficient.”

When and if they reach full proficiency, she says they will still have room for improvement.

“Proficient is the minimum of where we want students to be.  We would like students to move beyond that into advanced levels of study.  We look at the state and federal requirements for mastery of skills in the PSSA tested areas really, as I like to say, as the floor, not the ceiling.”

Holben says the basic math, science, reading and writing skills the state tests for are part of the curriculum, but they move beyond that and help students prepare for life after high school.
