Pope John Paul II HS Blessed And Dedicated

Kohn_PaulThe Archbishop of Philadelphia, Cardinal Justin Rigali, was in Upper Providence Township Sunday afternoon blessing and dedicating Pope John Paul II High School. “We offer Thanksgiving for the sacrifices of so many who have been involved in planning, financing and building this beautiful complex.  We petition God to bless all who enter this building.  May this school truly be a place where faith and knowledge flourish.  ‘Be not afraid to seek the splendor of truth and to live the gospel of life.’”

Cardinal Rigali was quoting the school motto, which he said was very appropriate.

“In many ways these words, ‘Do not be afraid,’ became a theme of his Papacy.  ‘Do not be afraid’ appears many times in the scriptures.  These words are addressed to Mary at The Annunciation, to Saint Peter when he was called to be a Disciple, and to Saint Paul on the eve of his shipwreck.  Each one was encouraged to trust in God and in his Providence.”

Pope John Paul II High School has 29 classrooms, five science laboratories, three computer laboratories and a large library/media resource center.  Sunday’s blessing and dedication ceremony took place in the 1,200-seat auditorium.  About half of the 900 students live in the Norristown, Spring-Ford and Perkiomen Valley School Districts.  The school’s history dates back to 1866, when Saint Matthew of Conshohocken was founded.  More recently it represents a merger between Kennedy-Kenrick High School in Norristown and Saint Pius X in Pottstown.
