Alleged Affair With Student Gets Teacher Suspended

wnpv_schoolsA Lower Merion High School science teacher has been suspended after a former student told school officials she had an affair with him about five years ago. 43-year-old Robert Schanne is not charged with any criminal offenses because the student was 18 years old at the time, but a letter to parents from Superintendent of Schools Christopher McGinley says it is unacceptable for any teacher to have what he calls a “dating relationship” with a student.  He says, “Our district expects the highest standards of conduct from its employees, including its teachers, and any breach of those standards is a very serious matter.”  Schanne taught Advanced Placement Physics at Lower Merion, and was also a yearbook sponsor.
