Torched Pirate Ship At Bucks Co High School To Be Rebuilt

fireA wooden pirate ship at the Palisades High School stadium in Nockamixon Township will be rebuilt. The school district says community members and donors have come forward, and the re-building will start soon.  The old one was torched earlier this month, and the arsonists are still loose.  It was 48 feet long, eight feet wide and two stories high, and it had become an icon in the Upper Bucks County community as a rallying point for school spirit and the football team.  It was big enough for the Palisades Pirates mascot and dozens of other students to get on board and cheer for the team.  It stood outside a fence beyond one end zone during games.  Upper Black Eddy contractor Scott Carr built the ship seven years ago, using a large hay wagon as a base, and he says the new one will sail higher and longer than the old one, and the wood will be treated with a fire retardant.
