SASD Super: No Bullying

wnpv_schoolsSouderton Area Superintendent of Schools Fred Johnson says they cannot and will not ignore bullying when it occurs. “It’s not just horseplay.  It’s not just an innocent act.  When there’s a threat, when something like this happens, internally we take it very seriously.”

He says cyber bullying, using cell phones, texting, email or social networks on the internet, is especially troubling.

“The cyber bullying is probably different than what it was maybe 20, 30, 40 years ago because that is 24-7.  The people that would choose to do that are ruthless, there’s anonymity there, and I don’t think we do a good job of teaching our children responsibility, and whenever you can complain without putting your name to it, that’s an injustice.  We’re not teaching our kids the right way to do things, and so that kind of anonymity and faceless insulting of people is very serious.”

Doctor Johnson says their staff is very good at spotting such behavior, and at the start of the school year they were able to track an incident back to its source and stop it.  He says they also have a very good program that helps freshmen make the transition from middle school to high school.
