NP Developing Communication Policy

pushbuttonA North Penn School Board committee is developing a policy on electronic communication between students and teachers or other school employees. The policy would spell out what kinds of e-mails, text messages or phone calls are inappropriate.  As it stands now, the policy would bar employees from revealing anything about their private lives to students.  If the full board approves the policy, employees could be fired or otherwise disciplined for posting information about drug or alcohol use, sexually explicit messages or provocative photographs.  The policy is partly a response to the case of a former North Penn administrator who admitted giving two 13-year-old boys money and gifts to discuss their sexual activity, sometimes through text messages.  37-year-old Charles Hurst of Montgomery Township pleaded guilty to corrupting minors earlier this month in Montgomery County Court.  He was Vice Principal at Pennbrook Middle School in Upper Gwynedd at the time of the alleged incidents, between January of 2009 and August of 2010.
