Colonial District Getting Solar-Powered Schools

sunThe Whitemarsh Township Supervisors have approved the Colonial School District’s plans for solar collector panels at two schools. Once the panels are installed and operating, they should produce 25,000 kilowatt hours of renewable energy each year, saving the school district an estimated $1.5 million on electric bills over a 20-year period.  The rooftop installations at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School and Colonial Elementary School will rise 18 inches above sheet metal and plastic foam bases.  The existing roofs will remain, with no need to cut through them, and the funding comes from a state grant, not local taxpayers.
