CB Bus Drivers Protest Layoffs

wnpv_schoolsFive Central Bucks school bus drivers and the husband of one turned out at Tuesday night’s school board meeting, asking board members not to lay off 37 drivers at the end of the current school year. The board plans to cut transportation costs by contracting with a private company known as First Student to take over part of the bus service.  Under the agreement, First Student will offer the drivers jobs.  Bus driver Chuck Flanigan told the board First Student has lower standards than Central Bucks, but Board President Paul Faulkner said he does not believe the students will be any less safe on First Student buses, and in fact the company provides some CB bus service now.  The district would lay off about the same number each year until all of the drivers are working for the private company.
