MCIU Buys Larger Building
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit has bought another building to replace the one it has occupied for years on West Main Street in Norristown.
An architectural firm has said the current building is overcrowded and, with only a little more than 81,000 square feet, expanding it would not leave enough room for parking.
The new building, at Swede and Lafayette Streets, has five stories with more than 100,000 square feet of floor space and about 450 parking spaces. It was built in 1990 as a Commonwealth Bank office building, and Citizens Bank has occupied it in recent years. The purchase price has not been disclosed.
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit provides educational services to all public school districts in the county, as well as about 150 non-public schools, and it should move into the new building in the spring of 2014.
