NPSD Dealing With Aftermath of Superstorm Sandy

The impact of Superstorm Sandy on the current North Penn School District calendar remains unclear.   Each of the 18 classroom buildings was closed for three days while Hatfield Elementary School needed a 4th day to dry our after a roof leak caused water damage inside.   With that as a backdrop, the school board Wednesday night designated five teacher professional development and parent-teacher meeting days as days that count toward the minimum 180 days of student instruction required by state law even though no students are present.   District Superintendent Curt Dietrich says these are Act 80 days and the district asks the state department of education to approve them every year.   Whether the district will need to go that route is anyone's guess at this point, it all depends on how harsh the upcoming winter turns out to be.
