NP Safe Schools Panel Recommends Upgrades

The North Penn Safe Schools Committee is recommending a number of security upgrades such as more cameras, two-way radios and outdoor lighting.

North Penn Coordinator of Safe Schools Ray Wilson says they have made many improvements in his three years on the job, and they include expanding the Raptor system to the entrances of all school buildings.

“That is a system that checks sexual predators in all 50 states, and when parents and visitors come into one of our schools they have to get their driver’s license which is put through the Raptor system, and then they get a visitor’s badge.”

Wilson says they also have a great security force at the middle schools and the high school, made up mostly of retired police officers.

The safe schools committee recommendations could cost as much as $150,000, and officials are looking for grants to help pay for them.
