Penn State Outlasts Wisconsin 36-33

wnpv_sportsIt wasn't pretty, but in the end it was a win for Penn State. The Nittany Lions, who lead by as many as 16 points mid-way through the first half, hung onto to beat # 13 Wisconsin 36-33. The win advances them to Saturday afternoons Big Ten Conference semi-final against Michigan State who upset Purdue 74-56. Penn State jumped out in front of the Badgers 18-2 with nine minutes left in the first half. That lead vanished to just four as Wisconsin roared back to trail  20-16 at the half. Neither team looked to take control after the break as both combined for just 8 points over the first eight minutes of of the second half. Two Tim Frazier free-throws and a Talor Battle jumper began to open things up for the Nittany Lions. Battle struggled through out the night looking for his offense shooting 3-18 from the floor, finishing with nine points. However his biggest shot of the evening came with 2:29 left when he nailed a three-pointer that gave Penn State a five point lead. With his nine points, Battle passed Jesse Arnelle (2,138) as Penn State's all-time leading scorer. The Nittany Lions now take on Michgan State, who shocked ninth ranked Purdue 74-56. The semi-final matchup is set for a 4:15pm tipoff.
