NCAA Second Round
West Region
Thursday, March 17th Tip-Off 2:10pm (Radio: AM 1440 WNPV)
Site: University of Arizona McKale Center
Winner plays San Diego State-Northern Colorado winner on Saturday

Series Record: Temple leads 59-32
Last Meeting: December 5th, 2009. Temple 45-42
Last Tournament Meeting: 2001 Temple 84-72 (Sweet Sixteen)

Temple is lead by former Pennsbury standout senior Lavoy Allen. Allen was named to the first team all conference for the second consecutive year. Along with being a an all league defensive selection for the third year, Allen leads the Owls in rebounding (8.4) and is second in scoring. (11.8) Junior Ramone Moore leads the team in scoring (14.9) and also credited with 40 steals. Junior teammate Juan Fernandez leads the team in assists (4) per game while averaging (10.7pts) per game. The Owls  finished second in the Atlantic Ten during the regular season and are making their 29th NCAA tournament appearance. Temple ended the season ranked 25th in the ESPN/USA Coaches poll.
Penn State heads into the NCAA tournament winners of seven of their last ten. During that stretch they reached the Big Ten finals for the first time in school history, losing to Ohio State. Penn State is lead by senior Talor Battle who averages 20 points per game. He is also the team's all-time leading scorer. (2,190)  Battle is also only the third player in NCAA history to record 2,000 points, 600 rebounds and 500 assists in a career. Battle has been a bit over worked of late. He has played all 40 minutes in eight of the last nine games. Senior Jeff Brooks, who has battle back from injury (dislocated shoulder) is the team's leading rebounder (6.5) while averaging 13.2 points per game. A win would give Penn State their 10th -  20 win season of all time. A win over Temple would also give the Nittany Lions five wins in a season over a top 25 ranked team. Also a school record. Penn State has participated in the NCAA tournament nine times with an overall record of 9-10.
