Gwynedd-Mercy Wins Two OT Thriller

It took two overtimes but in the end, the Gwyendd-Mercy women's basketball team lives to play another day. The Griffins, the number one seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, outlasted Marywood 82-78 at the Griffin Complex. With the two teams locked in a 23-23 tie at the half, Gwynedd-Mercy  opened the second half on a 12-0 run. After extending the lead to 18 with 10:24 to play, Marywood, the fourth seed, fought back to tie it with two Allison Bruet free-throws with 14.9 seconds to play. The Griffins fell behind by as many as five points in the first five minute OT before Taylour Alston (North Wales, Pa. / North Penn) put back a Brittney Neil (Woodlyn, PA. / Archmere Academy) miss with 5. 2 seconds left in OT number one. Gwyendd-Mercy out scored Marywood 12-8 in the second extra five minutes of play to pick up the win. Alston finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds. The Griffins now host second seeded Baptist Bible on Saturday night at 6pm. They will be trying for their sixth conference title in head coach Keith Mondillo's seventeen year career.
