The public is invited to the Lansdale Historical Society’s final community program of the season Tuesday night. Society Vice President Steve Moyer says it will look at the changing face of Montgomery Township. He says it was a commercial hub even before the mall was built, thanks to the Montgomeryville Mart.
“The Mart was just an amazing place to go as teenagers, and we claimed we went to laugh at all the other people, but of course what we did was we laughed at ourselves, but there were stores that had everything. You could get fresh cinnamon buns and they had soft pretzels there, and it just had a smell of its own and an excitement. There was a whole aura about it that was quite unique.”
Moyer says the food was good and the prices were cheap, making the Mart a perfect spot for teenagers. The program starts at 7:30 at the Lansdale Parks and Recreation Building, Seventh Street and Lansdale Avenue. There is no admission charge, but donations are appreciated.
