Stoogeum Holds Open House

More than 1,000 people turned out Friday and Saturday, November 25 and 26, for a two-day open house at the Stoogeum, a Lower Gwynedd museum dedicated to Three Stooges Movies and Memorabilia. Curator Gary Lassin says the appeal of Larry, Curly and Moe endures for several reasons.

“The themes that they played on were timeless.  The interactions between the three can’t be replicated today.  No comedians today are doing the kind of comedy that they did, and there’s sort of a fun thing about the cheesiness of the films, the cheapness of the films that sort of has an endearing quality, the cheesy special effects and the bad-looking body doubles and things like that.  I just think they’re fascinating.”

He says it’s obvious that the visitors enjoy themselves.

“One thing about this place is that people typically leave with a smile on their face.  They go into the theater and watch the films and they come out laughing and leave with a smile on their face, and I think that’s a good thing.”

Lassin says he married into the Three Stooges family.  His wife’s grandfather and Larry Fine were brothers, and he opened the free museum as a gift to Stooges Fans.  He says you could look at it as philanthropy.  The Stoogeum (rhymes with museum) is open about once a month, and the next date is Sunday, December 18.  It’s located in a small business park behind the Wawa store on Bethlehem Pike.
