Construction is underway on a new parking lot at the Elmwood Park Zoo in Norristown.

When the project is completed later this month it will more than double the amount of parking available on zoo grounds.  It will accommodate eight buses and 308 other vehicles.

For years zoo patrons have been parking along Harding Boulevard on busy days.  State and county redevelopment funds are paying for the 620,000 paving project.
