Founder's Day Draws A Big Crowd

A huge crowd turned out Saturday for Lansdale’s Second Annual Founder’s Day.

One of many attractions was a Diesel train from the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad that made three excursions between Lansdale and Souderton.

General Manager of Passenger Operations Paul Harland of New Britain says it was the second excursion off of their own tracks.

“We ran it from Willow Grove to New Hope and back again to celebrate the Tricentennial of Willow Grove.  The people here at Lansdale Founder’s Day approached us about running this train and we graciously accepted and hopefully it’s something we can continue to do every year.  It’s good for business, it’s good for exposure.  When we pulled into town I was happy to see people all over the train station and the crossing and the platform.  I’m glad the weather held out, and everybody loves to see something different.”

Harland says they brought two Diesel engines including one General Motors built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1963.  It was fully restored and on display at the Lansdale Station.  The one that pulled the cars to Souderton and back was newer.
