June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department on Aging, Brian Duke, says the theme this year for Elder Awareness Month is “One Person, One Action, One state”
“It’s calling upon everyone to be more aware of the forms of abuse. The first thing we’re doing is enhanced awareness with building activity across the state. Second, we’re working with the Elder Abuse Task Force in Montgomery and Bucks Counties. These Task Forces are comprised of the Office on Aging, the D.A., The F.B.I for Federal cases that have to be investigated, along with victim advocacy organizations and other groups.
Duke, a guest on the AM Edition Thursday morning, says anyone who believes an elderly citizen is being abused or is in a bad situation of neglect can call a 24 hour hotline at 1-800-490-8505
