Chrysler Financial is closing its New Britain Township Customer Call Center and laying off about 290 employees, effective at the end of August. Chrysler Financial was the carmaker’s financing and insurance arm until it became a separate company about three years ago. The work will be transferred to call centers in Jacksonville, Florida and Dallas, Texas and to employees who work from home. The final number of layoffs will be determined by the number of people who find other jobs within the company. Chrysler Financial Vice President Kelly Mankin says the company is downsizing because it has a dramatically declining portfolio.
