350 Animals Taken In 2 Deer Shoots In Public Parks

deerHunters killed 125 deer Wednesday at Tyler State Park in Bucks County as protesters stood just outside the park, which covers parts of Newtown, Northampton and Wrightstown Townships. The hunt has been held every year since 1987.  Meanwhile at Valley Forge National Historical Park, sharpshooters killed 225 deer during November.  Park managers say the large and destructive herd is devouring young trees and other environmentally-sensitive vegetation.  A contract with the federal agency that employs the sharpshooters calls for eliminating about 1,000 deer this winter and next winter, and 500 to 600 more in the last two years of a four-year-deal.  The Friends of Animals organization calls the deer-culling program reprehensible.
