The Mennonite Central Committee’s Annual Canner Project was held Monday and Tuesday at the Mennonite Resource Center in Franconia. Volunteers put up about 11,000 pounds of pork for needy people around the world. Project Chairman Abe Landes says they use nothing but fresh hams.
“After it’s cooked it still gives you a nice bite. In other words, it still has some solid chunks in it. We only use fresh ham because, as it says in the Bible, you’re supposed to give your first fruits. That also means, I think, you’re supposed to give the best. Well, I don’t know of anything that’s much better than fresh ham. That’s about top shelf.”
Even though the Mennonite Central Committee Canner Project is all-volunteer, and some of the meat is donated, monetary contributions are needed. Checks should be payable to “MCC Canner Project.”
