Montco Flu Clinics In Oct

healthdepartmentThe Montgomery County Health Department is holding three drive-through flu clinics in October. The first one was on Saturday, October 1, at Upper Perkiomen High School on Walt Road in Pennsburg. Communicable Disease Specialist Michael Baysinger says, contrary to rumors on the street, a flu shot will not give anyone the disease.

“People sometimes feel that if they get the flu shot they’re going to come down with the flu.  You do not get the flu from the flu shot.  That is a myth.”

He says the shots are not just for senior citizens.

“The recommendation has changed over the years.  It used to be just for anyone over the age of 65, and then they said over the age of 50.  The new recommendation now is everyone over the age of six months should get a yearly flu shot.”

Baysinger says the free clinics are strictly for Montgomery County residents, and other counties are holding similar clinics for their residents.  The health department is holding more drive-in clinics on Saturday, October 15 at the Montgomery County Community College Central Campus in Blue Bell and Thursday, October 27 at Congregation Beth Or on Welsh Road in Maple Glen. Hours are 10:00am until 1:00pm.
