The US Senate votes today on the debt deal, which was passed by the House last evening. I don't like the fact we're kicking the can down the road, or that the plan was cobbled together without the rank and file really getting a chance to digest it. But something had to get done and unless there's a shocker in the Senate, we get to move beyond today's deadline. Of course there remains much to do. What does the federal government need to do, what can we cut and then balance needs versus funding. I don't like the idea of higher taxes, but we've got to pay for what we don't cut. It's a big debate and should be at the heart of next year's Presidential campaign and the local congressional races as well. Hopefully folks will get plugged into that conversation and vote accordingly!
