Rainfall Sets Record

Southeastern Pennsylvania has set an all-time rainfall record for one year, and we still have two months to go in 2011. The Saturday snowfall contained nearly 1 1/2 inches of water, as measured at Philadelphia International Airport, where they keep the official records for the region.  That makes the year’s total a little less than 57 inches, breaking the old record of a little less than 56 1/2 inches, set in 1996.  August was the wettest month in history, even before Hurricane Irene came along, and by the end of the month it had broken the old record of about 13 inches by more than six inches.
