Genuardi’s Stores Sold

GenuardisThe Giant Food Store chain is buying 16 Genuardi’s markets in Southeastern Pennsylvania. They include the stores at Sumneytown Pike and Church Road in the West Point section of Upper Gwynedd, Bethlehem and Sumneytown Pikes in the Spring House section of Lower Gwynedd, Norristown and Welsh Roads in Maple Glen, Susquehanna Road in the Roslyn section of Abington, Bethlehem Pike in Flourtown, York Road in Jamison and Route 202 and County Line Road in New Britain Township.  Giant is buying them from the Safeway chain for $106 million.  The deal should close within six months, and the stores will all switch to the giant brand name.  Safeway is closing two other Genuardi’s Stores in West Norriton and Royersford, and one in Audubon is for sale.
