UGTMA Study Released

Towamencin officials have heard the results of an operations study for the wastewater treatment plant that they operate jointly with Upper Gwynedd.   Environmental engineering consultant Scott Armbrust told the township supervisors that the existing half century old plant is nearing its life expectancy and will not be able to handle new state mandates.   He also said the main sewer interceptor that feeds the facility on Kriebel Road is hydraulically overloaded and in extreme rain events water can actually come up from under a manhole cover.   The 50-year charter of the wastewater treatment plant expires in 2014 and Towamencin officials along with their counterparts in Upper Gwynedd want to know the status of the plant before they enter into a new agreement.   The $65,000 cost of the study will be split between the two municipalities.
