Sarah Bergin from the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes was one of our guests this week and we discuss the different events that Care & Share will be hosting and explaining the different opportunities that our community has to helps other in need.

GREEN FAIR is back!  Saturday, May 7 the Care & Share is hosting our Green Fair.  Who do have so far?

  • Returning again, our feature speaker - radio personality and organic gardening guru, Mike McGrath from “You Bet Your Garden”.  He will be sharing organic gardening advice for even the novice gardener!
  • Care & Share is now accepting vendor applications for this event – visit our website to down load one.
  • Why are we hosting this event?  C&S has been ‘green’ for over 35 years!  We are about recycling and want to provide the community the opportunity to learn of other local green businesses. 

Help those in Japan.  See the website – Mennonite Central Committee is accepting donations to forward on to trusted partners who work in Japan.  (discussion about what Mennonite Central Committee is, and how they tie into C&S)

How we are supporting those in our local community – Care & Share has now began a new partnership with Keystone Opportunity Council.

Is celebrating their 35th year in business.  In November 1975, the Shoppes started as one shoppe and has expanded to 5 thrift shoppes in the Souderton Center Shopping Center.  Their shoppes are: Used Books & media, Clothing, Furniture, Variety and the Thrift Outlet.

Is an independent non-profit.  They are governed by a Board of Directors with  bylaws written to give our proceeds to Mennonite Central Committee.

Has donated over $13 million to Mennonite Central Committee since we opened in 1975.

We respond to basic human needs and work for peace and justice. We envision communities worldwide in right relationship with God, one another and creation.   • Mennonite Central Committee works with people and communities in need regardless of whether they are Christian or of another faith or no faith. Is part of a network of independent thrift shoppes that benefit Mennonite Central Committee.  There are over 100 shoppes in the United States and Canada, with Care & Share one of the largest!

Sells on eBay.  Our eBay site recently earned a ‘Green Star’ status, which indicates we have received over 5,000 positive comments since we began selling on eBay in 2005.  You can purchase on the website and pickup in the shoppe to save on shipping charges.

Has a Silent Auction program.  Our Silent Auction program gives our customers the opportunity to determine the product price by bidding on selected merchandise.  Once you are registered with a bidding number, we invite you to stop by often to see the large variety of items which is  updated daily.  From designer handbags to jewelry to collections to vintage items…you never know what might be up awaiting your bid!

Opened a new type of Shoppe in the past month called the Thrift Outlet?  All clothing, bags, and shoes are $ .75 a piece/pair.  All housewares are 75% off the ticket price; all books & cassettes are $ .75 a bag.  These items are from our other Shoppes that haven’t sold in several weeks or items for which there is no space in the other Thrift Shoppes.

  • They have sold over 6,000 items the first week the Thrift Outlet was open!

Sells new mattresses.  Check out our website for pricing on twins, full and queen sized mattresses at very reasonable prices.

Participates with the PA Working Wardrobe in Bucks County. This program is with the Bucks County Assistance Office. It assists client who need clothing for job interviews, training or work.

Has a monthly ½ Price Sale.  On the third Friday of each month, all items, with a few exceptions, are ½ the ticketed price in our Books, Furniture, Clothing and Variety Shoppe.   All items in our Thrift Outlet will be $.50 per piece or the lesser price that is marked. The next sale is Friday, November 19.
