West Norriton Planners Reject Rec Center

A proposal for a regional recreation center in West Norriton has received a thumbs down from the township planning commission.   The complex would be built on the current site of the Westover Country Club and include 5 soccer fields, 5 basketball courts, 2 swimming pools, a skate park and a football field with an 8 lane track.   More than 2 dozen township residents spoke out against the project.   Their leaders have collected more than 700 signatures on a petition that opposes the regional recreation center.   They have also planted more than 200 yard signs opposing the project throughout the community.   The township commissioners will review the recommendation of the planning commission before they take a final vote on the project.
