Hotel Plans Approved in Montgomeryville

Homeowners in the Gwynmont Farms section of Montgomeryville will soon have a new neighbor.   The township supervisors have approved plans for a four-story hotel as well as an office building and a day care center on twelve adjacent acres between Gwynmont Drive, Trotter Lane and Dekalb Pike.   The attorney that represents the developer says the project does not include extending a new road to connect Dekalb Pike and Gwynmont Drive where it currently dead ends near Trotter Lane.   He also says the developer wants to be a good neighbor and is bending over backwards to minimize the impact of the hotel on the homeowners in Gwynmont Farms.   Construction on the site could get underway before the start of winter.

Route 422 Public Forum

There was a public forum Tuesday night about the proposal to toll Route 422 in Montgomery County.   An official with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission told a big crowd at Pope John Paul II High School that a $2.65 toll for the stretch between Valley Forge National Park and the other side of Pottstown could generate enough money to eliminate traffic bottlenecks on the highway and also provide the startup capital for resuming passenger train service between Norristown and Reading.   The DVRPC estimates it will cost about $750,000,000 to fix Route 422.

Emergency Responders Honored in Lansdale

Lansdale officials Wednesday night put the spotlight on the borough workers that served their community during the worst of Hurricane Irene.   The reception at Borough Hall honored emergency responders but also included recognition for employees not usually thrust into dire situations like the Park and Rec Department workers that batened down the hatches at the two borough pools.   Lansdale officials say they received alot of positive community feedback about the hurricane response and some of it suggested organizing a ceremony to honor those that answered the call during the emergency.
