The Zoning Hearing Board in Hatfield Township has granted the North Penn Water Authority a height variance that allows it to put up a water storage tank near Unionville Pike and Richmond Road not far from the municipal garage. The tank would have a capacity of three million gallons and stand more than 150 feet tall. That's almost four times higher than what the zoning ordinance permits without a variance. The Zoning Hearing Board decision only addresses the height issue. The project still needs the review of the Hatfield Planning Commission as well as the approval of the township commissioners.
Towamencin officials have renewed a contract with the North Penn YMCA that will allow the community service organization to manage the municipal pool on Weikel Road for a second year. The agreement calls for the Y to handle the day-to-day operations of the aquatic facility including payroll and ordinary maintenance. Township officials say the Y is also looking at some special programs that could boost membership at the Towamencin pool. The YMCA will receive $132,000 for its services during the upcoming season. That's the same as last year. The pool is scheduled to open on Memorial Day.
